Considerations

“That Thou wouldst be pleased to have mercy on those of whom no special remembrance is made on earth”

I’m mindful of the discrepancy that whilst I light-heartedly post about trivia, there are days when tragedies of epic proportions are occurring. Uttering the cliché of ‘thoughts and prayers are with the family’ is insufficient but neither can I blog on regardless.

I’d started this a a roll-call page but as the disasters and atrocities mount up, I feel it is better to leave a silent space…

Regard this comments section like a book of remembrance to leave any thoughts

I feel that more prayers are needed in our daily lives. Poetry also helps. A poem that lifts me every day is “Wild Geese” by Mary Oliver.

    1. your prayer of a poem is a good choice so here it is:
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
      love what it loves.
Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
      Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
      are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
      the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
      are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —
over and over announcing your place
      in the family of things.

  2. While it was quite the cliché during my childhood, I still find Desiderata by Max Ehrmann is an effective redirection when I feel prompted to write invective response to the day’s events. For what it’s worth. Not a prayer as such.

    1. Oh yes – I remember it well as the 70s mantra – thank you for re-reminding me

“With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
      Be cheerful.
      Strive to be happy.”
